Indian Premier League 2020, DC vs KKR: Shreyas Iyer, Enrique Narje Star as Delhi Capital, beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs
Delhi Capitals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Ground to top the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 points table. Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer and opener Prithvi Shaw scored half-centuries, while South African fast bowler Enrique Norje beat the franchise by three wickets for their third win of the season. Chasing a record target of 229 runs was not easy and the Delhi bowlers clung to wickets at regular intervals to make things difficult for KKR despite some fireworks in their lower middle order.
Batting first, the Delhi Capitals played a 228-run first innings at the loss of four wickets.
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan provided the team with an early stand of 56 runs.
Dhawan fell just before the powerplay ended for 26 but Shaw kept going and was dismissed for 66 off just 41 balls.
Iyer was unbeaten on 88 runs and got the good support of Rishabh Pant who scored 38 runs from 17 balls.
Andre Russell was the bowlers’ choice for KKR. He took two wickets and conceded just 29 runs from his quota of four overs.
In response, KKR had a poor start, losing Sunil Narine in the second over itself. Nortje accounted for the West Indies all-rounder.
Shubman Gill looked good while staying in the middle, but he was dismissed when Amit Mishra tried to leave him for a big shot. He fell for 28 runs.
Mishra bowled just two overs and then went out of the ground after injuring his bowling as he tried to catch a catch with his bowling.
Russell and Dinesh Karthik failed to make a mark on the ground, famous for high scoring encounters.
Russell lost his wicket for 13 runs, while Karthik could manage only 6 runs.
For KKR, Nitish Rana smashed 58 off 35 balls, but was caught by Harshal Patel, who dismissed him and Karthik off consecutive balls.
Eoin Morgan, along with Rahul Tripathi, tried hard to chase down the target, but the Delhi bowlers caught their nerves and scored two crucial points.
Morgan scored 44 from 18 balls and Tripathi scored 36 from 16 balls.
The Delhi Capitals will face Rajasthan Royals on 9 October and KKR will take on Chennai Super Kings on 7 October.
