Indian Premier League 2020, Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders: All-round KKR Halt RR race in Dubai
It was a dramatic change of fortune for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the match 12 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 as they suffered a massive 37-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Dubai. Rajasthan captain Steve Smith won the toss and fielded KKR to bat. KKR scored a challenging 174/6 with the help of Shubman Gill’s 47 at the top of the order and Eoin Morgan’s 34 at the time of the death. In reply, Rajasthan lost Steve Smith (3) and Sanju Samson (8) cheaply and Sharjah’s hero Rahul Tewatia also scored 14 as they were restricted to 137/9.
The middle order failed miserably for RR not a day their reliable top three caught fire. Jos Buttler was dismissed for 21 by Shivam Mavi, who also dismissed Samson in the first seven overs.
Mavi’s partner Kamlesh Nagerkoti from India’s 2018 Under-19 World Cup squad broke the Rajasthan middle order by dismissing Robin Uthappa (2) and Ryan Parag (1).
Tewatia was bowled by Varun Chakraborty, who also got Jofra Archer to hit six sixes, as Rajasthan could not find any momentum in their chase.
Tom Curran resorted to some big hitting from No. 7 as he struck out for an unbeaten 54 off 36 balls with three sixes, but it came too late for the 2008 champion.
All bowlers contributed for KKR as the trio of Mavi, Nagerkoti and Varun Chakraborty got two wickets each while Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav got one each.
Earlier, a cameo from Andre Russell (24 for 14 with three sixes), who was promoted to No. 4, followed KKR’s innings after Narayan (15 for 14) and Nitish Rana (22 for 17). Helped to speed up. Big hits were as often as he liked them.
Karthik went cheaply for one but Morgan held on until the end and helped propel KKR’s total of 170 runs.
Archer started the match at scorching pace, violating 90mph points in a row and scoring 2/18 from four overs.
Ankit Rajput, Jaydev Unadkat, Kuren and Tewatiya got one wicket each.
