Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals preview: MS Dhoni faces questions as CSK’s redemption

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is the side that generates the peak of emotions. From the quintessential satire to the sheer scorn, CSK sees it all with its huge fan base. MS Dhoni is a god, but when the chips are down, he is also questioned, who has played at that level. Similar questions are being asked of him to come at number 7 in the batting line-up, something happened in IPL 2020 and it is not effective, especially against Rajasthan Royals. If CSK’s match against Delhi Capital (DC) also ends unfavorably, similar questions will become an uproar.

On the other hand, the Capitals, at least for now, will be smiling after surviving a Super Over win against Kings XI Punjab.

At one stage, KXIP needed a run from three balls to register a win, with one settled and Mayank Agarwal being attacked. He then lost two wickets in two balls, Kagiso Rabada took the last catch and the match went into a super over.

Rabada came back to bowl fast and true, and KXIP were able to score only two runs in the super over, never making a point of chasing DC.

A lot was said about umpiring after the match, but Delhi Capital took the points and are not complaining.

Rabada was the linchpin. He not only took two wickets in the KXIP innings, including Glenn Maxwell, but was also on point during the Super Over.

This is something CSK will have to focus on – if Dhoni is towards the end of his 20 overs, and how he handles the kabaddi.

He hit three sixes in the last over against the Royals, but the match was effectively over by then.

Another concern would be bowling. Lungi Ngidi, Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja were looted by the Royals batsmen, mostly Sanju Samson and Steve Smith, who hit 13 sixes between them. Then Jofra Archer also won, forgetting Nagidi’s last innings.

Therefore, CSK has a problem, except for Deepak Chahar and Sam Curren. Don’t be surprised if there are changes in the bowling line-up.

The Delhi Capitals will also be a bit wary about the presence of leading bowler Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin made a sensational revelation, claiming two wickets against KXIP before he injured his shoulder while trying to field the ball and was down and out for the match.

His presence, or absence, would be an important issue for Delhi, as he was really keen for that one over. Ashwin will be crucial to the success of the team in IPL 2020.

CSKs are in a flow. Many of its players are seniors who are reaching the end of their tether as IPL cricketers. This can become an issue in the UAE’s heat and trying conditions.

Nevertheless, they are still a support unit and the Delhi Capitals will have plenty of work to do if they go through a rivalry in Dubai on Friday.
