Kuldeep Yadav is one of the new crop of cricketers who have added new dimensions to sports in India. It is rare to start with a left-handed Chinaman bowler and requires a lot of skill to succeed in hard art. But Yadav will also be challenged when Kolkata Knight Riders begin their IPL 2020 campaign against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, especially if they have to bowl Kirron Pollard. From that crop of huge Indian and one who can hit the ball far away, Pollard is a threat to any bowling attack, not least to the wrist bowler. This is the challenge for Yadav. That said, the bowler has the skills to intimidate Pollard, so it’s a good challenge.
Pollard has been synonymous with the successes of Mumbai Indians. The West Indies star has scored 2773 runs in 149 matches and hit 182 fours and 177 sixes.
However, Yadav’s favor may be that the ground in the UAE is larger than the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the site of most of Pollard’s successes. Even now, many batsmen have played big shots and seen them less in the UAE.
So this is the opening that Yadav may need. With a little guilt and luck, this face cannot be the cakewalk it looks on paper.
