When Royal Challengers Bangalore take the Rajasthan Royals to Abu Dhabi on Saturday, on the first day of the double-header, a face-two is going to be quite a look ahead. If AB de Villiers shows any form of his own from the last match and for the past several seasons, the RR bowlers will have plenty of work to do. It could fall well on his T-Jofra Archer to control the top order of RCB and not the least experienced de Villiers. Archer has been in furious form, catching speeds of 150 kmph with ease and harassing all batsmen so far. De Villiers is the champion of horizontal shots, so it is worth the wait.
De Villiers has so far scored 134 runs in three matches in IPL 2020, with a strike rate of 186.11. Overall, South Africa have played 157 matches for 4529 runs with three centuries and 35 half-centuries. They don’t come much better than this.
For his part, Archer will certainly seek better returns from three wickets in three matches, but his impact as a fast bowler is reflected in his economy of 7.50. Incidentally, Archer’s strike rate as a batsman is 306.66!
Overall, Archer has played 24 IPL matches for 29 wickets with an economy of 7.52.
It is a battle of cricket veterans that will be fascinating to watch. A face worth waiting for.
