IPL 2002, RR vs KXIP: Sachin Tendulkar not surprised with KXIP against Murugan Ashwin

Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar said that he was surprised that Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) did not make enough use of Murugan Ashwin in the match against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rajasthan Royals chased down a total of 224 runs to beat KXIP by four wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Ashwin bowled just 1.3 overs and conceded 16 runs. He was also picked to bowl the last over, but Rajasthan needed just two runs to win the match.

In the final over, Ashwin dismissed Ryan Parag, but Tom Curren and Jofra Archer won by four wickets with three balls remaining to ensure Rajasthan Royals victory.

“Great batting by @rajasthanroyals’ batsmen Smith, Sanju and Tewatia to chase this mega total. They maintained their cool and beautiful pace. Wonder how @lionsdenkxi’s fast bowlers fed many yorkers and M Ashwin’s Also failed to use. # RRvKXIP # IPL2020, ”Tendulkar tweeted.

For Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, Steve Smith and Rahul Teotia scored half-centuries to lead the team to a four-wicket victory. Tewatia came in to bat at number four and was struggling at one stage as he scored just 8 runs off his first 19 balls.

However, in the 18th over bowled by Sheldon Cottrell, Teotia rolled the ball over his head with the help of five sixes. The left-hander smashed a 53-run knock as Rajasthan got a convincing win.

Sanju Samson had scored 74 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and scored 85 against Kings XI Punjab.

For KXIP, Mayank Agarwal had scored his maiden IPL century, as Punjab posted a massive total after batting by Rajasthan. Mayank scored 106 runs in 50 balls with the help of 10 fours and 7 sixes, taking the team’s score to 223/2.

Mayank and KL Rahul shared 183 runs for the first wicket and the pair set the record for the most opening partnership for KXIP in the IPL. This stand between the two batsmen is the second largest partnership in the IPL.

Rajasthan have now won their opening two matches in the ongoing edition of the IPL. The team will face Kolkata Knight Riders on 30 September while Kings XI Punjab will take on Mumbai Indians on 1 October.
