IPL 2020, CSK vs DC: Prithvi Shaw, Kagiso Rabada Star as Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by 44
Delhi Capital (DC) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match by beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 44 runs on 25 September. The match was held at the Dubai International Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Prithvi Shaw was the star for DC, scoring 64 runs off 43 balls. The youngster also hit nine fours and a six. Among the bowlers, Kagiso Rabada was the star of the Delhi-based franchise, taking three important wickets, including Faf du Plessis and MS Dhoni. After being put into batting, Delhi got off to a strong start with both the openers and Shikhar Dhawan putting pressure on the opposition bowlers.
Shaw could only be dismissed on the second ball of the match, but fortunately for the batsman, no CSK player appealed.
He got a touch of his bat off Deepak Chahar, which went to Dhoni behind the stumps. The umpire missed it and the former India captain did not appeal.
TV replays confirmed that Shaw found an unconscious inside the shore.
Dhoni made amends and made a superb stumping off Piyush Chawla to send Shaw back to the pavilion. Dhawan also supported Shaw, scoring 35 runs off 27 balls.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer made meaningful contributions with 37 * and 26 runs respectively. After 20 overs, DC finished at 175/3, setting a target of 176 runs.
The CSK bowlers could not show much luck, only Sam Curran and Chawla recorded dismissals.
After limiting DC to fewer than 200 runs, CSK were off to an unstable start.
He lost the opening crucial wickets of Murali Vijay and Shane Watson. Both scoreboards could only add 10 and 14 runs respectively.
Faf du Plessis once again tried to advance CSK’s innings, but was overtaken by Patriot Rabada.
Du Plessis scored 43 runs in 35 balls with four fours. Young Ruturaj Gaikwad could not emulate Shaw, scoring just five runs off 10 balls.
In the end, Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja tried to play their finisher roles, but could not overcome the pressure exerted by DC’s bowling department.
Rabada led the DC bowling unit with three wickets, followed by Eric Narje and Axar Patel.
After three matches in IPL 2020, CSK has won one match, and lost two fixtures. Meanwhile, DC has played two matches, winning both.
In their next match, CSK will face SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 2 October while DC will face SRH in their next outing on 29 September.
