IPL 2020, CSK vs SRH: Priyam Garg, bowlers help SunRisers Hyderabad Beat Chennai Super Kings by 7 runs
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match at Dubai International Stadium on Friday. Priyam Garg scored his first IPL half-century, while the bowlers were holding their nerves against a star-studded CSK batting order. Among the bowlers for SRH, T Natarajan took two wickets, while Rashid Khan conceded just 12 runs in his four overs. After the defeat, CSK are slipping down the opening barrel in the tournament and last year’s runnerup sits at the bottom of the points table while SRH is in fourth place.
Earlier, SRH won the toss and made a terrific start after Johnny Bairstow lost his wicket without disturbing the scorer.
Manish Pandey helped stabilize SRH’s innings and both added 46 runs for the second wicket. Warner scored 28 runs from 29 balls, meanwhile Pandey scored 29 runs for 21 runs.
Warner was sent back by Piyush Chawla and Shardul Thakur accounted for Pandey’s wicket.
Kane Williamson could not build his good batting form from the last match and could only manage nine runs for 13 runs.
Garg revived the innings for SRH, having his first IPL half-century. The former India Under-19 captain scored 51 off 26 balls, hitting six fours and a six.
Abhishek Sharma gave him competent support in the middle, scoring 31 runs in 24 balls. He was dismissed by Chahar.
Meanwhile, young Abdul Samad scored eight runs. SRH finished at 164/5 after 20 overs, a target of 165 runs.
CSK started their run chase in an uncertain manner, losing the wicket of Shane Watson early.
Faf du Plessis once again attempted to advance CSK’s innings, but Garg lost his wicket after being run out. South Africa scored 22 runs off 19 balls.
Ambati Rayudu also could not mark his return on a good note, falling to Natarajan with only eight runs.
Dhoni attempted to chase his side, and got support from Ravindra Jadeja, who scored his first IPL half-century before being dismissed by Natarajan. Jadeja scored 50 runs and hit five fours and two sixes.
Dhoni remained unbeaten on 47 from 36 balls and Sam Curren was dismissed for 15 from five deliveries. But the powerful end of both was not enough to prevent defeat.
In their next match, SRH will face Mumbai Indians (MI) on 4 October. Meanwhile, CSK will face Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on the same day.
