Mumbai Indians spinner Rahul Chahar, who took two wickets against Kings XI Punjab, said that the pitch was helping the spinners which helped them gain confidence and execute their plans. Chahar finished with 2/26 from his four overs as Mumbai beat Punjab by 48 runs in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Chahar said in the post, “The pitch was a help for the spinners and I was gaining confidence from it. My plan was to put pressure on them by giving them less runs and then attacking wickets. I was trying for wickets. ” Match conference
Late strikes by Hardik Pandya (30 *) and Kieron Pollard (47 *) led the Mumbai Indians to a mammoth score of 191 runs.
“We have great faith in Pollard and Hardik’s great skills. Pollard almost gave us a win in the last match against RCB. They are in good form and they can finish the game in any situation,” the spinner said.
Apart from Chahar, James Pattinson and Jaspreet Bumrah took two wickets each, while Trent Boult and Krunal Pandya got one wicket each.
Chasing 192 runs, KXIP got off to a good start. However, Bumrah dismissed Mayank Agarwal (25) in the fifth over. Minutes later, Krunal Pandya bowled Karun Nair for a duck.
Nicholas Pooran then joined captain KL Rahul and both scored 21 runs. Rahul’s sluggish innings came to an end in the ninth over, leaving Punjab at 60/3.
Powran performed brilliantly before he was dismissed in the 14th over and tried to revive KXIP’s hopes through his power-hitting. He scored 44 off 27 balls which included two magnificent sixes.
Glenn Maxwell and Jimmy Neesham departed in rapid succession and Puran’s wicket collapsed in the middle-order.
KXIP continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and were soon found back at 124/8. Finally, chasing the target, Punjab were reduced to 49 runs.
