IPL 2020, RR vs CSK: players to watch out for
On September 19, Chennai Super Kings, against the odds, tramped against defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Now, they will be against another formidable opponent in the Rajasthan Royals. The two teams clashed at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. This will be the first time that fans will get to see Rajasthan Royals in action in IPL 2020, but some big names will be missing as MS Dhoni takes the initiative to CSK. Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith will be without the services of England duo Jose Butler and Ben Stokes while CSK will be missing Dwayne Bravo.
Steve Smith: The Australian star, who missed the ODI series against England due to injury, appears to have recovered and is expected to lead the Rajasthan Royals in their opening match of the IPL 2020. Smith is consistently doing well in the IPL, but has never set the stage
He has scored a total of 2,022 runs in 81 matches at an average of 37.44. Last season, Smith played 12 matches, scoring 319 runs at an average of 3997. This year, the Australians are hoping to improve on that tally and take Rajasthan Royals to their second IPL title.
Sanju Samson: On his day, the stylish right-hander can be as devastating as any batsman on the planet, but businessman Sanju Samson needs to bring continuity to his game. Talent is undisputed, giving him a hot asset in the IPL, but Rajasthan requires him to come to the party more often.
The young Kerala player has been in the periphery of the Indian team, and with MS Dhoni leaving, it is right time for Samson to stake a claim and give the wicketkeeper-batsman his place and a bigger stage than IPL Get to Care.
Joffra Archer: The raw pace of the England star has been too hot for many big names to handle and Jofra Archer reaches the UAE based on some impressive performances for his national team. Archer, however, also competes for his place in the mix with Andrew Tye and Tom Curren and will need to hit the ground to be part of a consistent team.
Last year, the England fast bowler took 11 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 6.76. Archer will perform better this season.
Chennai Super Kings
M S Dhoni: The former Indian captain landed another batting batsman in the IPL 2020 opener, dropping himself down the order and promoting Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja, when most thought was ready for the CSK captain. The decision paid rich dividends and both players followed.
Though fans were sad to see Dhoni off just two balls, the win meant more for CSK and his supporters. Dhoni was solid behind the stumps, but it is still unknown what form he is in.
Ambati Rayudu: In Mumbai Mumbai’s victory, the defender played a role for CSK. He started off slow with CSK rebuilding after two early losses, but hit boundaries as the innings progressed. In the absence of Suresh Raina, the attack on Rayudu is more than ever.
CSK will need Rayudu to shine in the tournament to go far.
Ravindra Jadeja: The Indian all-rounder looked good with both bat and ball in the opening game of CSK. He scored 10 runs in five balls, batting positively, but will have to contribute consistently.
Jadeja was good with the ball but he took two important wickets thanks to Faf du Plessis’ brilliant performance in the outfield. Jadeja will be expected to improve his performance against the Rajasthan Royals, which he has played in the past.
