IPL 2020, CSK vs RR: Looking for ‘good performance’ against Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith said
Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Steve Smith and his team are looking forward to a good performance in their opening match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rajasthan Royals will take on CSK on 22 September at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. “Chennai and Mumbai are both two solid teams for a long time. We obviously saw a little bit of play the other night, the Super Kings played really well to get to the line at the end. Hopefully, we can put in. Good performance and Get our campaign off to a good start, ”Smith was quoted as saying in a team media release.
Smith missed the recently concluded ODI series due to an extended performance against England and now the right-handed Australian batsman will be scheduled to showcase his skills in the UAE.
On preparations ahead of the season opener, Smith said: “Yeah obviously (I) didn’t play the last three ODIs in England. I stayed in Dubai for a few days with some good rest and then ran a little bit.
“Yesterday I did a bit of zig-zag, which is part of the protocol, so that I pass back to play and today I’ll be a hit in the nets. Hopefully, I will pull well off the hit and play. Will be good for tomorrow. “
“People have been here for a month now, and from all reports, the training has been fantastic. It has been good to catch both the old and new royals, we are in a good place and it has got an excellent team.” The year is really strong, and we are ready to go, ”he said.
Rajasthan head coach Andrew McDonald also dismissed rumors of Smith’s absence from the Royals’ first match due to extended performances.
McDonald said, “There is great news available for Steve. This is particularly spectacular behind some failures in the UK.”
“It is obviously fantastic that your captain has made available for the first game as I have said before that we are in really good hands.
“In terms of the rest of the squad, we couldn’t be happier with their preparations. We have found what we needed, our preparations are going on behind long lay-offs.
“We have covered the bases and the team has some very good depth and are really looking forward to seeing what it looks like in a real competitive match against CSK.
“They had a great first game, they are a game in the tournament which is of little benefit when you come out against a team that has already played and performed.
“So we will definitely cut our work and are really looking forward to what our people can bring to the table and we are really excited about what the journey presents,” he said.
