IPL 2020, RR vs CSK: Rajasthan Royals paid tribute to Jofra Archer’s batting against Chennai Super Kings. The clock
Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their first Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match of the season to win by 16 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. English pacer Jofra Archer was the thickest with both bat and ball for the Royals. Archer was all out against Lungi Ngidi in the last over, finalizing RR’s target of 217 runs. He hit four consecutive sixes, scoring 27 out of eight. RR took to Instagram to cheer his star man, and also compiled a video compilation of his bat during net sessions. The video was captioned, “Jofra on Fire..Bott the Bat! ‘6666’ #HallaBol #RoyalsFamily # IPL2020 Producing @jofraarcher.”
In the video, Archer can be seen showing his wide array of shots, sending some deliveries for big sixes. Archer also contributed with the ball, picking up a wicket in four overs and scoring 26 runs.
Before Archer came into the ground, Ngidi bowled three good overs, struck 24 and also took the wicket of Sanju Samson.
His performance deteriorated when MS Dhoni asked him to bowl the final over. New man Archer sent him for four sixes, two of which came from no-balls. Three of them were from the first three deliveries of the over.
After the first two sixes, which legally delivered, Ngidi overstepped twice. It was so devastating that Ngidi scored 27 off 2 balls due to his two no-balls. After three deliveries, the South African alleviated the pressure and scored three singles, a dot ball and a wide win.
30 runs were scored in the final over, making it the most expensive final in IPL history. Chris Jordan and Ashok Dinda are the other bowlers to jointly make the most expensive final over.
After Dhoni won the toss and was picked on the field, the Royals were sent to bat first. Samson and Steve Smith got off to a good start, scoring 74 and 69 respectively. Ending at 216-7, he set a huge goal. CSK finished 200-6 in 20 overs.
RR will play their next match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on 27 September. Meanwhile, CSK will face Delhi Capitals (DC) on 25 September.
