Rahul Tewatia paid tribute to the 27-year-old via his Twitter on Sunday in a historic performance with a win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Bio. Tewatia helped chase a record 224 against RR 22 with a stunning batting performance against KXIP. He scored 53 off 31 balls, helping his team win by four wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. After the win, the Royals changed their Twitter bio, “Hoping 2020 does a Rahul Tewatiya.”
KXIP looked ready for victory before Rahul Tewatia came to the crease. Tivettia initially had difficulty connecting with deliveries, but suddenly clicked on a ball thrown by Sheldon Cottrell in the 18th over. In the last 18 balls, RR required 51 runs, and suddenly Tewatia opened fire.
He hit five sixes in that over, which equaled the record for most sixes in a single over in IPL history. This record was previously held by Chris Gayle. Tewatia’s knock included seven sixes.
Of the first 23 deliveries he faced, he could only score 17 runs. But in the next eight balls, he scored 36 runs. Although he could not end the match falling to Mohammed Shami in the 19th over, it was enough to hold his side for the new record of the biggest chase in IPL history.
Mayank Agarwal (106) and KL Rahul (69) helped KXIP achieve the mammoth target of 224 runs. After Jos Buttler lost early, RR consoled Sanju Samson (85), Steve Smith (50) and Tewatia (53). RR won the match with three balls to spare.
Rajasthan will play their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 30 September. Meanwhile, KXIP faced Mumbai Indians (MI) on 1 October.
